The H50 nursing unit for Colorectal Surgery is part of Cleveland Clinic’s Digestive Disease Institute, which has been ranked second in the nation. Working with 16 colorectal surgeons, our dedicated and highly engaged nursing staff is focused on providing world-class medical and surgical care to patients with medical problems such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer and genetic bowel disease. 

 

*PRN caregivers are required to work a minimum of 48 hours during each 6-week scheduling period, though they are welcome to pick up additional shifts as needed. Specific holiday assignments determined based on unit needs.* 

 

A caregiver in this PRN Float Pool position works rotating day/evening shifts, from 7:00am—7:30pm or 3:00pm—11:30pm. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley Catheters.   

  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.  

  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (upon or within new hire period) 

  • Nursing students required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) prior to hire 

  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered 

  • GI patient familiarity  

  • Must be comfortable with IV removal. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
