Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Patient Ambassador caters to the culinary needs of patients and acts as the representative of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
Essential Job Functions
Mealtime Preparation
Maintains tray line area ensuring Patient Services refrigerators, freezers, and condiment stations are stocked, clean, and free of expired items.
Ensures HACCP logs are complete in tray line areas.
Stocks smallware’s and ensures readiness for service. (Domes, Bases, Plates, Bowls, Tumblers, trays and Silverware)
Prepares Patient/Resident trays for assigned floors; assembles all cold and hot items based on tray diagram standards, the diet order, and meal selections ensuring a timely tray delivery.
Patient/Resident Menu Selection
Ensures meal accuracy and diet appropriateness while taking patient/resident meal selections.
Ensures meal accuracy while delivering trays, following infection control standards, PPE guidelines, and national patient safety goals.
Ensures patient/resident culinary needs are catered to during the shift for assigned floors and patients
Actively participates in department patient satisfaction initiatives, PIs, and Shadow Rounds.
Ensures satisfaction with culinary services during the shift for assigned floors and patients following AIDET standards of service.
Cleanliness and Sanitation
Ensures the cleanliness of the tray line area, following daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning assignments.
Follows departmental opening and closing procedures.
Maintains organization throughout the shift in the work area.
Stores all items in their designated labeled areas and eliminate clutter.
Communication
Effectively communicates issues to management promptly.
Knows the schedule and check out with management before clocking out.
Effectively communicates with the care team throughout the shift for assigned floors and patients; checks in at nursing units before each meal period for changes to diet orders or NPO status.
Teamwork
Actively participates in daily huddles.
Actively participates in department QAPI(s): IDDSI logs and Allergy logs; ensuring meal accuracy and diet appropriateness of high-risk trays for assigned floors and patients.
Assists other team members when necessary. Asks for help when necessary.
Assists management in any way conducive to the efficient operation of the facility.
