Job Summary: About the Position: Masters an understanding of the mission, policies, procedures and available resources/services to the patients and presents patient's problems, opinions and needs to appropriate staff and management. Represent the Commander in safeguarding and ensuring ethical, statutory and constitutional rights of patients.

Major Duties:

  • Receives and responds to concerns and grievances from patients or from individuals on behalf of patients
  • Interviews patients, their families/representatives, and facility staff members in recognizing institutional barriers to the provision of optimum health care and access to patients
  • Seeks to resolve complaints by discussion with parties concerned
  • Participates in Patient Advocate professional groups to ensure communication, improved public relations, professional growth
  • Conducts surveys of ongoing inpatient and outpatient medical care provided
  • Provides customer service briefings and training including Newcomers orientation, Initial/Interim/Recovery Customer Service Refresher Customer Service, Front Desk Customer Service

Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service, involving responsibilities such as receiving and responding to patient concerns and grievances; effectively presenting patients' problems, opinions, and needs to appropriate staff and management; and applying knowledge of the organization's mission, policies, procedures, and available resources/services to advise patients on their rights and responsibilities. OR Substitution of education: Successfully completion a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
