The Patient Access Team Lead is a key administrative professional responsible for overseeing front-end patient access operations while actively supporting daily registration functions. This role ensures patients are efficiently checked in for procedures, surgeries, and emergency room visits, while maintaining accuracy in patient information, insurance validation, and billing processes.
The Team Lead serves as a resource for Patient Access staff, assists Care Team Members and the Patient Access Supervisor, and provides leadership coverage as assigned. Although not a clinical role, the Patient Access Team Lead plays a vital part in ensuring smooth hospital operations and a positive patient experience.
Lead and support patient access staff during registration for outpatient procedures, inpatient admissions, surgeries, and emergency room visits
Check patients in and out accurately while maintaining compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements
Manage and review patient paperwork, ensuring completeness and accuracy
Validate insurance coverage, obtain authorizations, and explain insurance benefits and financial responsibility to patients
Provide exceptional customer service by answering patient questions and addressing concerns professionally and empathetically
Assist Care Team Members and collaborate with clinical and non-clinical departments as needed
Support the Patient Access Supervisor with daily operations, staff guidance, and workflow coordination
Cover call rotation and supervisor duties as assigned
Identify workflow issues and contribute to process improvement initiatives
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy standards
