The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

Position Overview

Supervises all Patient access areas of responsibility to meet department goals while maintaining budget integrity. Educates and monitors employees and adheres to department and administrative procedures and guidelines to maintain compliance and ensure quality. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Collaborates with other departments to improve shared work processes. Utilizes standards, guidelines, and written procedures for performing patient access functions.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:    High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:    Three years Patient Access experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
Other Credentials:    
Knowledge and Skills:    Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service skills. Understanding of health care regulations, insurance processes, and revenue cycle management.
Special Training:    Excellent understanding of insurance concepts and health plan policies. Knowledge in all areas of hospital registration, authorizations, and pre-registration operations.
Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities:    Ability to supervise multiple tasks simultaneously and ability to change priorities when necessary to meet deadlines. Demonstrates good judgment as well as excellent attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensures responsibility for the schedule and maintenance of appropriate staffing levels while adhering to budget.
Assists with all probationary and annual staff evaluations on or before due date, as measured by reports.
Monitors/facilitates departmental training and education for new recruits and incumbents, as measured by reports. Assists with interviewing, hiring, and departmental training of new employees as well as plans, assigns and directs workloads; Addresses complaints and resolves problems on a timely basis.
Provides support to Operations Manager/Director in meeting requirements for special projects and tasks, as measured by reports and observation.
Provides staff coverage as needed. Stays current with insurance company policy and procedure changes relative to pre-certification and communicates new information to appropriate staff.
Assists with monitoring and measuring quality and productivity of staff and ensures that department goals and standards are met.
Works with providers and clinical leadership to improve documentation necessary to meet financial requirements for authorizations and medical necessity for difficult cases.
Communicates effectively with patient access team members and other departments and is open to feedback and suggestions in order to identify opportunities for improvement.
Stays current with departmental procedures for all aspects of pre-certification and quality team job functions. Provides learning resources and tools to staff to ensure full compliance with revised procedures.
Identifies department goals and supports the culture of organization.
Responds in a timely manner to departments, physicians, or patient concerns and complaints related to registration or pre-authorization process.
Supports department performance improvement initiatives and assists with accurate data collection in support of quality performance improvement initiatives.
Ensures compliance with HIPPA regulations and adhere to all relevant state and government regulations and DNV standards as measured by reports and statistics.
Adheres to CH attendance policy as well as interdepartmental policies and procedures.
Attends Capital Health assigned meetings. Coordinates department participation in staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
Provides coverage in working areas as required when on-call duties apply.
Performs other duties as assigned.
