Overview
The position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to clerically support Patient Accounting and Admissions. The Patient Access Representative is responsible for carrying out all policies and procedures associated with the registration, insurance verification, and documentation of patients presenting to Admissions, completing functions necessary to patient admission to unit as well as the clerical support functions of registration. Effective use of department computer systems to carry out daily work activities. Assists Manager with special projects. Ensures adherence to established policies and procedures. Assists in the organization of and review of activities which support patient care delivery as it relates to patient inquiries, registration, insurance verification, and documentation of patient demographic information. Must be able to work under changing conditions and with some interruptions. May be required to work in other areas according to the department and facility needs. The Patient Access Representative works under the supervision of the supervisor and ED Manager.

What you will do

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service in person or via telephone through answering incoming call or walk in requests for referral for assessment and/or admission to the hospital for psychiatric and/or chemical dependency treatment.
  • Completes pre-admission and admission data as part of comprehensive admission process including intake and EMTALA/patient tracker logs used as part of maintaining documentation of patient visits and minimal wait times to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Works with patients, referral sources, and law enforcement to ensure all required documentation is signed and completed as part of the patient’s medical record. Serves as an initial contact for patients, families, referral sources, and/or allied agencies seeking intervention or support. Greets persons upon arrival. Supports in supervision and comfort of persons.
  • Completes thorough and timely insurance verifications, pre-certifications and authorizations to ensure reimbursement from carriers to Riverside Health System for delivered services. This includes TDO processing of paperwork and communication HPR5 community resource.
  • Completes valuables and contraband search documentation as part of preparing patients for admission to unit. 
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities related to efficiency, appropriateness, productivity and/or coordination of activities/services with other departments and personnel. This includes ordering of office supplies and maintains inventory.
  • Closely observes patient behavior and condition while maintaining a safe and clean environment following hospital and unit policies and procedures to include safety rounds and safety checks.
  • Consistently demonstrates ability to assess and facilitate/coordinate patient transports and Riverside Health System initiatives with focus to maintain safe practices with the coordination and planning for patient transports. Provides assistance for multiple RHS service lines.


Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED, (Required)


Experience

  • 2 years  Medical Clerical (Preferred)
  • 2 years Behavioral Health Care (Preferred)


Licenses and Certifications

  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required) and
  • First Aid - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC)   within 30 Days(Required)
