The Patient Access Specialist position is part of the growing MUSC Health presence at the Bluffton Medical Pavilion, a modern outpatient facility designed to expand access to high-quality care in the Lowcountry. This role supports a collaborative, patient-centered environment where access to care begins the moment a patient makes contact.

At Bluffton Medical Pavilion, teams work together across scheduling, registration, and clinical coordination to ensure patients experience seamless, timely, and compassionate service. Full-time, part-time, and PRN roles available.

The Patient Access Specialist serves as a key front-line contact for patients and providers, ensuring efficient and welcoming access to clinical services.
 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing front desk coverage in a fast-paced outpatient setting
  • Scheduling appointments for internal and external referrals, including hospital and community providers
  • Managing high-volume multi-line phone systems with professionalism and urgency
  • Completing patient registration, verification, and documentation accurately and efficiently
  • Collecting payments for clinical services and assisting with billing-related inquiries
  • Coordinating interpreter services to support patient communication needs
  • Collaborating with clinical teams, schedulers, technologists, and referring offices to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Supporting a positive patient experience through clear communication and service excellence

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution OR
  • High school diploma/GED with:
    • At least 2 years of experience in a medical office, call center, or customer service environment
    • OR at least 6 months of MUSC Patient Access experience
    • OR at least 6 months of related healthcare experience

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Experience with scheduling systems or electronic medical records
  • Ability to multitask in a high-volume environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and financial transactions
