Position: Patient Access Representative

About the Role: As a Patient Access Representative at MaineGeneral Health, you will play a crucial role in ensuring seamless financial clearance, registration, and clerical processes for direct and scheduled patient admissions. Your responsibilities will involve interacting with patients and their families, providing a warm welcome, facilitating check-ins for services, and ensuring accurate information for clinical staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform financial clearance, registration, and clerical duties related to point-of-service (POS) services.
  • Meet with patients or caregivers to exchange necessary information, explain processes, and address concerns or questions.
  • Communicate effectively with unit staff and other relevant personnel to exchange information and determine placement.
  • Verify insurance benefits, obtain precertification/authorization, and ensure verification of medical necessity.
  • Determine and accept required payments, including co-pays, deductibles, and coinsurance, or refer to financial counselors for follow-up.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information into the registration system.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant customer service experience.
  • Excellent and demonstrated communication skills.
  • Preferably, 1 year of patient registration, scheduling, or other clerical/customer service experience in a medical office setting.
  • Ability to keyboard accurately and quickly.
