MercyOne Genesis is seeking a highly motivated Pathology Assistant to join our collaborative and well-established pathology team. This role plays a critical part in supporting diagnostic services through surgical pathology, working closely with board-certified pathologists in a high-quality, patient-focused environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Pathology Assistant who enjoys a mix of grossing, and advanced laboratory procedures, with rare autopsy support in a collegial and team-oriented setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination and description of surgical specimens
- Prepare and submit tissue for light microscopy and special studies
- Coordinate and obtain specimens for advanced testing (e.g., flow cytometry, cytogenetics, cultures, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy)
- Collaborate with pathologists to determine appropriate special techniques (e.g., tumor triage, frozen sections, toxicology, perfusion, etc.)
- Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and documentation
- Obtain relevant clinical history and medical records for case review
- Maintain and follow surgical pathology protocols
- Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies
- Support organ/tissue procurement and research requests as needed
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and assist with CAP and Joint Commission inspections
- Ensure cleanliness and readiness of grossing suites
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant program required
- ASCP certification (or eligible) preferred
- Strong knowledge of anatomic pathology techniques and procedures
- Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
