Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant provides clinical support to the physician and mid-level providers. The Medical Assistant provides instructions to patients as directed by the providers. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for compliance with all OSHA/CLIA and HIPAA Regulations and ensures completion of all duties vital to business operations. The Medical Assistant is a highly visible position that is always responsible for creating a positive impression with patients, family members, and other visitors to the office.

Program Requirements & Conditions:
• Enrollment: Candidates must be actively enrolled and maintain good standing in the medical assistant program at Brighton Center for Employment Training.
• Work Schedule: Associates in the PATH-MA program are required to work in a Medical Assistant role as determined by the clinic.
• Work Hours: Participants will work 24 hours per week in their MA role.
Compensation & Benefits (PATH-MA Program Participants Only):
• Work Hour Compensation: While working 24 hours per week in the clinical setting, participants will be compensated for 40 hours per week.
• School Time Compensation: In addition to work hour compensation, participants will receive pay for 16 hours per week designated as school time, supporting their academic commitments at Brighton Center for Employment Training.

Job Description:

  • Prepares patient for exam and acquires vital signs, weight, general history, and current medication list when required.
  • Provides patient care and clinical support to provider during exam, including acupuncture needle removal, application of stimulator, needle count, venipuncture, injections, and EKGs.
  • Documents all clinical findings and patient response to interventions, i.e., history, medications, vital signs, weight, and testing results.
  • Collects and provides to the provider the completed Laboratory/test findings Intake Form, and physician referral information, Diagnostic Imaging, or Cardiopulmonary test results as they are available.
  • Provides instruction to patients under the direction of the provider.
  • Maintains adequate level of supplies in exam rooms and work station.  Cleans and disinfects exam rooms.  Reports malfunction of equipment to department supervisor.
  • Provides assistance to Clerical Coordinator/Registrar as needed.  Assists with completion of referral process, outpatient testing, pre-certification and scheduling.
  • Timely and accurate collection/distribution of all patient information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
