About the role

  • Deliver compassionate pastoral and spiritual care to patients, families and staff, respecting diverse beliefs, cultures and traditions.

  • Assess and respond to spiritual and psychosocial needs, providing person-centred care, resources, rituals and bereavement support.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams, contributing to care planning, referrals and family discussions.

  • Liaise with external faith leaders and chaplaincy services to meet specific religious, spiritual or sacramental needs.

  • Maintain professional standards and documentation, supporting best practice in line with Spiritual Care Australia standards and St Vincent’s values.

Please note: This role requires availability for weekend and early evening shifts. In practice, this has been one Saturday or Sunday per month and at least one evening shift per week (10:30am – 7:00pm)

About you

We are seeking a compassionate, values-driven professional to provide exceptional pastoral and spiritual care.

  • Experienced in pastoral/spiritual care in healthcare, able to assess, deliver, and document person-centred care.

  • Emotionally and spiritually mature, with excellent listening, assessment, and communication skills.

  • Qualified in Pastoral/Spiritual Care (min. 2 CPE units or in progress), Eligible for Spiritual Care Australia membership, and valid driver’s licence.

  • Self-directed and collaborative, able to manage priorities and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Desirable: Tertiary qualifications in counselling, theology, or psychology, experience leading liturgical worship, and basic IT skills.

  • Centres of excellence include heart & lung transplantation, bone marrow transplantation, cardiology, cancer care, HIV/AIDS, respiratory medicine, mental health, homeless health, drug & alcohol services, and correctional health
