The Partnering Commercial Assessment Leaders (PCAL) team is part of the Portfolio, Strategy & Insights (PSI) department. Its mission is to shape Roche’s pipeline, improve the portfolio, anticipate needs, and deploy solutions to internal and external customers by providing powerful insights and influencing decisions at the highest level of the Pharmaceutical organization.
Your mission as a PCAL is to deliver objective market assessments and valuations of external early and late-stage business opportunities. You are strategic thought partners to Corporate Business Development (CBD) and senior stakeholders in GPS on a range of business and strategic questions related to the path to value and strategic fit of external assets in the existing product portfolio. This critical role connects the commercial and strategic perspective with partnering ambitions and influences enterprise-level decision-making with market potential expertise.
The Opportunity
Act as strategic thought partner representing the commercial view for a given licensing or M&A project: collaborate with Corporate Business Development to drive and influence recommendations and trade-offs on sophisticated global business development opportunities throughout the due diligence and negotiation process
Lead and influence global cross-functional teams: skillfully navigate complex organizational dynamics to ensure alignment of commercial strategy and value drivers in a fast-paced, matrix environment across numerous time zones, with the ability to respond effectively to unpredictable and time-sensitive workloads often dictated by external context and events
Catalyze and orchestrate the development and the review of commercial assessments for a given licensing or M&A project: identify the analysis approach, build the patient flow(s) and related revenue forecast(s), bring in the external / competitor / market perspective, and integrate data across multiple sources (including but not limited to primary and secondary research, real-world evidence and other internal data sources) to understand and predict market evolution
Catalyze and orchestrate the development and the review of financial valuations for a given licensing or M&A project: collaborate cross-functionally (incl GPS, GPMA, US Commercial, REDs/PD, CMC, Finance, Legal) to align model inputs, analyze key value drivers and sensitivities that can help support a decision
Portfolio stewardship: highlight the internal portfolio context to align business development projects with the company’s R&D and commercialization strategies, ensuring external opportunities reflect value to patients, society, and Roche
Strong communication and Executive Presence: effectively collaborate with and challenges both peers and senior partners to prepare the business case for governance bodies (including ESPC/LSPC, Mission Support, and CEC) and confidently present compelling insights to inform critical investment decisions that have the potential to significantly impact Roche's strategic direction and future growth
Identify and drive opportunities to streamline PCAL business operations and develop new principles, tools, or methodologies that evolve PCAL best practices
Who you are
Education & Experience: Business or science degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the global healthcare industry. PhD or MBA preferred. Affiliate and/or consulting experience is a plus
Pharmaceutical/Biotech Expert: Possess a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, including current dynamics, future trends, drug development, and regulatory/reimbursement environments. Demonstrate an ability to anticipate and adapt to emerging trends and disruptions
Outstanding VACC (Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, and Coach) leadership skills: proven track record in leading cross-functional teams in a complex, global, matrix environment. Skilled in building relationships, influencing without authority, and driving alignment across time zones and cultures
Strategic Thinker & Problem Solver: Proven ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and understand new disease areas. Able to formulate critical questions, challenge assumptions, and manage ambiguity. Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills to uncover root causes and address business challenges. Is seen as someone who can advise and guide the organization on the relative risks and opportunities for a given project within the frame of the DA/portfolio strategy
Effective Communicator & Influencer: Outstanding organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines. Able to simplify complex information into clear, concise messages for senior management. Possess executive presence and the ability to deliver impactful presentations
Strong Analytical & Financial Acumen: Extensive experience in forecasting, analytics, and commercial roles, preferably across multiple disease areas and geographies. Possess strong financial analysis capabilities, including modeling, valuation, and financial statement analysis. Advanced Excel/Sheets skills are essential

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $160,200 - $297,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
