Part-time Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 16

Hours: Monday and Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Administers pelvic floor physical therapy treatments to patients, working under direction of and as assistant to Physical Therapist. Maintains the American Physical Therapy Association’s Standards while keeping each patient’s safety a priority.  The PTA helps implement individualized treatment plans focusing on improving strength, coordination, function, and quality of life for patients experiencing pelvic pain, incontinence, prolapse, post partum recovery issues, and related musculoskeletal conditions.  Administers treatment interventions as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist, including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, and biofeedback training.  Educates patients and caregivers on pelvic health management, safe movement, posture, and home exercise programs.  Observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and reports orally or in writing to Physical Therapist.  Confers with members of physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs. Performs clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree in a Physical Therapist Assistant Program from an APTA accredited institution required. Previous experience or strong interest in pelvic health physical therapy required. Completion of pelvic floor continuing education courses (Herman & Wallace, APTA Pelvic Health Section) preferred. Active or temporary Physical Therapy Assistant license from the Louisiana State Board of Physical Therapy required. Temporary license holders must obtain active license within 90 days of hire. Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Compassionate, professional demeanor and commitment to patient privacy. 

Physical Demands:     
Must possess good physical health.  Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.

Constant (67% - 100%) – talking, hearing, and seeing
Frequently (34%-66%) – NONE
Occasionally (1%-33%) – lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, and handling/feeling
