This is home-office based position with preference given to candidates who live in or are geographically close to Tennessee. In this role you will be providing direct support on high-quality literacy instructional practices in grades 5-12 to a district(s) in the state. Candidates must be available on weekdays during school hours through May 2026 and willing (if needed) to travel within the state. Virtual onboarding and training will be provided.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Part-time Senior Manager, you will provide direct support to a district(s) in Tennessee on high-quality instructional practices in grades 5-12 in English Language Arts classrooms as part of the district’s implementation of their adopted High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM). This can include collaborating with district leaders and educators on understanding the district’s HQIM implementation efforts to date and creating an implementation support plan; leading in-person trainings for educators to deepen their understanding of key aspects of effective literacy instruction; and conducting classroom observations and walk throughs using the TN Instructional Practice Guide as part of progress monitoring efforts.
Specific responsibilities include:
Manage implementation and influence strategy for TNTP’s support of district HQIM efforts, including but not limited to:
Engaging with district clients via a collaborative planning process to norm on a vision of excellent literacy instruction
Developing a coaching scope and sequence plan aligned to the LEA’s instructional priorities and needs
Deliver professional development for district and school leadership and instructional coaches. Key development activities may include individualized goal-setting support; individual coaching sessions and check-ins; learning walks/campus visits; tailored professional development sessions; longer-term strategic planning; coaching cycles.
Managing workstream/s including executing on a theory of action and strategy to reach impact and adjusting when off-track
Tracking progress towards contract goals and making strategic decisions regarding project management and support
Collecting classroom and district-level data and contributing to the creation of high-quality, data-driven reports or other deliverables demonstrating the effect of the team’s approaches towards contract goals
Build client capacity and cultivate client relationships, including but not limited to:
Developing tools and resources in real time to respond to client needs
Developing and cultivating client relationships that foster trust through authentic engagement and ensuring client satisfaction with our work
Facilitating and/or directly coaching district and school leaders to build capacity in areas aligned to priorities to support the sustainability of our work
Designing sessions and facilitating professional learning for district leaders, school leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders
WHAT YOU HAVE
Qualifications:
Experience working with leaders at school districts or CMOs and supporting complex organizational change efforts, including the ability to implement a clear vision and purposeful strategy to achieve ambitious goals
Demonstrated track record of success with literacy in grades 5-12, grounded in evidence-based reading instruction
Experience developing and facilitating adult learning/training
Excellent project management skills and an ability to work efficiently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Candidates must be available on weekdays during school hours through May 2026 and willing (if needed) to travel within the state. We ask that candidates have availability for a minimum of 10-12 hours per week. Please note that more hours may be required on weeks when travel is required.

Ambiguity doesn’t overwhelm you; just the opposite, you thrive on it. Your creative instincts will help you deal with vague situations and develop new approaches with limited guidance.
Translate your expertise. We’re counting on your strong public presentation skills, ability to assess and adjust to the learning needs of your audience, and ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences, including teachers, school leaders, and district staff. You can implement a vision for the sequence of learning that all stakeholders—district leaders, school leaders, teachers, etc—need to improve the experience of students.
Know great teaching and learning when you see it. Whether you are watching how students engage during a lesson or looking at student performance data, you can identify whether students are grappling with the right content and diagnose what needs to happen to improve student learning outcomes immediately and in the long-term. You know high-quality instructional materials and can support partners in their implementation at the classroom and school level. (preferred)
Influence leaders to act. You’ll regularly interact with, and be expected to influence, high- level clients at the district and school levels – motivating them to make both incremental changes and take bold leaps.
Have a passion and understanding for the education landscape and communities. You bring deep background knowledge in the current education landscape and a passion for embedding community engagement and involving communities in our work.
Build relationships. You have an ability to connect and build relationships with a variety of communities.
