What we want
The College of Dentistry is looking for a part-time Biopsy Service Associate to serve in the department of Diagnostic Sciences in support of the timely diagnosis of biopsy specimens for the Oral Pathology Service (OPS). This position serves as a liaison between OPS and medical/dental facilities, clients, the Texas A&M University College of Dentistry departments, and the laboratory’s third‑party billing company. The Biopsy Service Associate provides essential customer service, specimen accessioning support, billing coordination, and administrative assistance to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory operations. What you need to know
Salary minimum: $19.56 hourly (Based on selected hire's qualifications).
Work Schedule Requirements: This is an on-site, part-time position with an expected schedule of 24 work hours per week with a minimum expectation of three work days per week on-site, preferably on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There is flexibility to work more days per week, but no less than three days per workweek.

Required Education and Experience
High school graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three years of experience in general office or clerical work.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional experience in a related role in the medical field and/or customer service.
Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, or coursework in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including variable hours and days
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Willingness and ability to transition to a full‑time role in the future, if applicable
Responsibilities
Customer Service and Communication
Greets visitors in a professional and courteous manner
Answers, screens, and routes incoming phone calls and emails
Provides timely support to clients and assists with resolving client issues and requests via phone or email
Provides general information and referrals to clients
Responds to pathology report and slide requests
Sorts and routes emails received by OPS from clients, patients, and College administration
Responds promptly to emails appropriate for the role
Specimen Accessioning and Case Preparation
Receives and accessions incoming pathology specimens
Prepares specimens and documentation for gross examination by the resident or pathologist
Collects and enters specimen‑related information into the laboratory management system (database), including:
Contacting clinicians’ offices when required clinical information is missing
Contacting clinicians’ offices when preferred billing methods are not indicated
Accurately preparing cases electronically for pathologist review and microscopic data entry using speech‑recognition software
Office, Billing and Financial Support
Receives, sorts, and routes incoming OPS mail
Deposits insurance, client, and patient checks daily in accordance with College procedures
Transmits deposit information to the TAMU Finance Department
Forwards medical insurance correspondence to the billing vendor in a timely manner
Serves as a liaison between OPS, the billing vendor, and the TAMU Finance Department
Provides general administrative support
Faxes and/or emails finalized pathology reports to clinicians
After daily cases are finalized, prepares required documentation and transmits materials to the billing vendor in a timely manner
Applies, interprets, and communicates laboratory policies and procedures
Serves as a resource for answering questions related to laboratory operations and policies
Laboratory Operations Support
Prepares slide trays and biopsy reports for daily resident review
Monitors and maintains laboratory supplies and equipment
Monitors and replenishes supplies needed for preparation and mailing of biopsy kits and requisition forms
Assists with maintaining CLIA‑required files and records
Coverage and Backup Responsibilities
When other OPS staff are unavailable, additional duties may include:
Assembling biopsy kits
Mailing biopsy kits to clients
Maintaining records related to receipt, distribution, and tracking of biopsy kits and other required documentation
