What is the compensation?
Pay Range: (G23, 24, 25) $21.99 - $33.43 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties?
Perform comprehensive grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and maintaining turf areas to City standards.
Prepare and maintain athletic fields and public spaces for safe and high-quality use; perform trenching and turf aeration as needed.
Perform specialized landscaping duties, including pruning trees and shrubs and removing dead or diseased vegetation.
Plant, transplant, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass.
Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and sprays in compliance with regulations; maintain accurate chemical application records and ensure proper storage.
Design, install, program, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems and related grounds infrastructure.
Direct or assist with construction and maintenance of City facilities, including excavating, concrete work, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting.
Install, inspect, and maintain playground equipment and safety surfacing.
Provide custodial services and facility upkeep.
Perform seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal, winterizing water lines, and event setup.
Prepare landscape project estimates and transport materials.
May serve as lead worker on assigned projects.
Operate and maintain heavy and light equipment and tools.
Supervise and train seasonal or part-time staff and support team operations as needed.
What are the minimum requirements?
Provo City will honor an equivalent combination of job-related experience and education. Applicants will have up to 6 months after hire to obtain any missing licenses.
One year of experience in lawn and tree care, general construction, light/heavy equipment operation, and/or other job-related experience.
A valid, lawful Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL).
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Two years of experience as a Grounds Technician I OR three years of general construction, grounds maintenance, or other job-related experience.
A valid, lawful Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL).
A valid Utah Pesticide Applicator License
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Three years of experience as a Grounds Technician II OR six years of general construction, grounds maintenance, or other job-related experience.
A valid, lawful Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).
A valid Utah Pesticide Applicator License
What is the selection process?
Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on March 5, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.
If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
