This is the entry level where investigators perform entry level work under close supervision and receive training and assist in conducting a variety of caseload investigations to determine an inmate’s suitability for clemency.
Investigators prepare and submit written investigative reports by deadlines as assigned. All investigative reports will be prepared in accordance with agency policy and procedure. All investigative reports will be thorough, accurate, free from repetitive and chronic errors, including chronic spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
Investigators prepare parole recommendations for the investigative report based upon information obtained through file research, interviews, most recent LSI-R/ASUS, if available, and/or other sources, in accordance with agency policy and procedure. All recommendations will be free of subjective content and include consideration of the offender’s ability to successfully re-enter society, victim’s concerns, and public safety.
Education and Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
• Good organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, implement activities in multiple areas, and rearrange task priorities to assist where needed.
• Ability to utilize tact, discretion, and diplomacy when interacting with Board members, criminal justice professionals, and the public.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel).
• Proficiency in MS Outlook.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship; and,
• Possess a valid Oklahoma State Driver’s License at the time of hiring to perform necessary travel and must be willing and able to fulfill all minimal job-related travel normally associated with this position.
• Education and experience requirements at this level consist of the statutory requirements of Title 57 O.S. Section 357: “Professional investigators shall have a four-year degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in psychology, sociology, criminal justice or related areas of study. The agency may, at its discretion, *waive the requirement of a specific major and may substitute criminal justice experience for the requirement of a major in psychology, sociology, criminal justice or related areas of study”
• *The Pardon and Parole Board will substitute two years of criminal justice experience for the requirement of a major in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or related areas of study, however, experience will not substitute for a four-year degree.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE POSITION
• Sitting at a desk and using a computer terminal and keyboard.
• Physically lifting/carrying inmate files to retrieve hardcopy.
• Using the scanner and copier.
• Making and receiving telephone calls throughout the day.
