This role is responsible for supporting lawyers in the various daily operations of the company’s Legal Department. The Paralegal’s duties include working directly with lawyers on transactional, ethics & compliance, litigation, or legal technology matters.

This Paralegal position will work for the second-largest business division in the company, the Transaction Tax Practice Group. This position is embedded in this business division and reports directly to the division’s lead lawyer, the Vice President, Legal & Division General Counsel for Transaction Tax. That lawyer reports in turn directly to the company’s Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel.

This position requires agility and creativity as the practice operates in a complex segment of the tax consulting industry. This role requires a high degree of independent judgment and ownership. The successful candidate will be expected to learn the division’s legal frameworks and processes and then execute responsibilities with minimal oversight, exercising sound judgment consistent with Ryan’s standards.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Plano HQ, with an expectation of working onsite 3 days per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting closely the lawyer dedicated to this division, as they manage its contract, bankruptcy, dispute resolution, transactional, regulatory, governance, and compliance matters.
  • Facilitating Legal’s contracting with clients, vendors, and outside legal counsel.
  • Filing proofs of claim and working on other bankruptcy related tasks that arise with client Chapter 11 or Chapter 7 bankruptcies.
  • Working with Accounts Receivable and Accounting in collection efforts.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate required
  • At least 5 years of support staff experience in a corporate law department and/or a law firm.

Required Skills:

  • Significant experience working with contracts, including managing, creating, and working with contract templates and assisting with contract negotiations and contract execution.
  • Experience reviewing master agreements, or similar type, and issue spotting for legal clauses and concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage legal processes from intake through resolution, applying learned frameworks and making sound decisions without routine escalation.
  • Initiative, organization, good judgment, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Pro-active communication, persistence in driving matters to closure.
  • Agile mindset, responds timely to shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Team-oriented, builds relationships across the company and with external partners.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to learn and use efficiently select legal technology tools, including PACER and AI platforms.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and other similar application.

Preferred Skills:

  • Some familiarity with bankruptcy law and collections.
  • Legal research skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no direct reports.

Work Environment:

  • This position will be based in Plano, TX.
  • Hybrid work arrangement: At least 3 days per week working in Ryan’s Plano office.
  • Travel requirement: less than 5%
