Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a results-driven and service-oriented Paralegal to join our Law - Labor & Employment team. This position provides support to in-house legal counsel and other stakeholders through contract review, litigation support, legal research, and the coordination of document requests and responses. Assists with garnishment, subpoena and other compliance, litigation and document management, and the preparation of administrative fillings and labor-related legal materials.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides initial intake and review of contracts, litigation, legal process and other legal and/or technical documents for the Law - Labor & Employment team.
Supports management of legal matters, projects, reports and research with expertise in and in compliance with specialized legal software applications for hold order, matter management, e-discovery, and document management databases, systems, procedures, processes, programs and technology tools.
Requests, gathers, reviews and analyzes company information, files and documents to respond to subpoenas, information requests, and similar third party and internal inquiries. Gathers, analyzes, communicates, organizes, assimilates, and summarizes information for use by in-house and outside counsel and calendars hearings and deadlines. Conducts fact-finding interviews with company personnel to collect, compile and fact-check information.
Assists with all aspects of litigation; organizes and maintains legal and evidentiary documents, including pleadings, briefs and motions; coordinates outside counsel activities; coordinates witness interviews and deposition preparation; drafts and issues hold orders; collects and reviews discovery and oversees document production; and executes settlement processes.
Composes summaries and status reports on discovery, depositions, pending matters and proceedings and assists counsel with other reporting requirements.
Partners with counsel to assess, organize, draft and prepare legal documents, contracts and filings, including court or government agency responses and associated court or government agency documents and pleadings. Assists in the defense of enforcement proceedings, including administrative agency proceedings, instituted or defended by the company.
Using specialized legal applications, performs research to collect and analyze legal materials, issues and data; conducts investigative research; applies legal principles, facts and evidence to appropriate business activities.
Tracks developing case law, legislation and regulations affecting practice areas, legal standards and business activities and prepares reports, presentations and summaries to guide others as relevant.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-approved program
Minimum of six (6) years of relevant paralegal experience. Previous litigation, labor, employment, and employee benefits law experience preferred
Ability to identify complex problems and effectively partner with stakeholders to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions
Ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality commensurate with employment, labor and benefits matters
Adaptable, organized and able to manage a dynamic workload, with an ability to juggle and critically analyze multiple matters and effectively prioritize work to ensure completion in an accurate, timely and efficient manner
Strong people skills and service-orientation and an ability to work collaboratively within a team structure
Detail-orientation, with an ability to deliver excellent work standards and demonstrate accountability for the same
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
Desire to learn and develop in career progression and open to feedback
