GEICO is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Paralegal, Intellectual Property (IP / Patent) in the Legal Privacy, Cybersecurity, Technology, AI, and IP division of GEICO’s Corporate Legal Department. This role will primarily support the IP team in protecting GEICO’s innovative technology and valuable brand.

This role involves a broad range of paralegal responsibilities and requires excellent communication and task-management skills. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy and has experience with IP management systems.  The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse work assignments, and collaborative team settings across organizational levels.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and provide general support to IP counsel for patent and trademark-related activities

  • Assist IP counsel with managing outside counsel responsible for handling patent and trademark filings

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of the company’s patent and trademark portfolio

  • Prepare and generate docket reports and prioritized action item lists to support patent and trademark prosecution events and corresponding deadlines

  • Ensure filing and prosecution deadlines are accurately docketed and monitored

  • Create matters in IP management system and confirm data integrity between IP management system and other systems such as legal billing system

  • Assist with creating and maintaining recurring metrics, analytics, and reporting within IP management system

  • Manage the intake and initial processing of new invention disclosures, ensuring accurate documentation and timely review

  • Support the preparation, collection, and recordation of formal documents for filing new patent applications

  • Collaborate with IP counsel to collect evidence of use for trademark registration filings and renewals

  • Support IP counsel for projects as needed, including by collecting and organizing relevant documentation and verifying accuracy of data

  • Support IP counsel on transactional matters, including IP licensing administration and management

  • Perform administrative duties to facilitate department operations, including managing correspondence, calendars, scheduling arrangements, and filing of expenses

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a U.S. patent prosecution paralegal (required)

  • Solid understanding of USPTO rules, IDS practice, and docketing systems

  • Experience with trademark prosecution (preferred)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office® applications (e.g., Word®, Excel®, Outlook®, PowerPoint®) and experience with IP management systems (experience with IP Folio® preferred)

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Professionalism, discretion, and a collaborative approach

Location: Hybrid – This position requires working onsite 3 days per week at the Chevy Chase, MD office.


 

Annual Salary

$92,250.00 - $144,525.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
