The role

The Financial Services division (“DFS”) currently consists of around 40 direct employees (and including joint ventures around 200) and offers a variety of maritime solutions to the customers of the Damen Shipyards Group via, among others, supplier credits, buyer credits, leases and operational and commercial brokerage services. The Financial Services division thus acts as long-term, reliable partner to the end-customer through the lifecycle of its financed assets. The division is managed by the management team and all legal, risk & compliance affairs are vested within the division head of legal supported by a division junior legal counsel. The proposed new paralegal reports directly to the the division head of legal.

We are currently looking for a paralegal to further strengthen DFS.

Key accountabilities

The division legal team is responsible for amongst others:

  • reviewing and negotiating transaction documents in relation to ongoing financing transactions;
  • supporting on certain high importance / key-projects, such as significant value financing transactions (for example for other Damen divisions);
  • assisting in the set-up of joint venture transactions and its transaction documentation in relation to the joint ventures in which DFS is involved;
  • updating and maintaining the standard templates used within DFS;
  • providing overall ad-hoc advice on a wide variety of topics to the (DFS) management team; and
  • upholding of the DFS’ own designated risk & compliance framework.


As paralegal you will have a high degree of independence and support the division head of legal with the day-to-day execution of these activities to facilitate the growth of DFS’ business and the overall success in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and internal policies.

Skills & experience

Profile

  • Experienced professional with either a HBO or WO bachelor in Dutch private law;
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language;
  • Familiarity with digital administrative procedures;
  • Affinity with corporate legal / corporate secretarial matters;
  • Affinity with handling regulatory and compliance matters;
  • Excellent legal skills;
  • Strong written/ verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate.
