The Opportunity:


The Paralegal position is an excellent position for a motivated individual looking for an opportunity to grow within CACI. In this role, you will work collaboratively with teams of USAO attorneys to handle a wide variety of litigation support tasks from the basics (preparing and filing documents with courts and organizing, tracking and archiving legal documents) to the more complex tasks (redacting and protecting privilege information, conducting factual and legal research, assisting in witness interviews, depositions and trial preparation by preparing binders, indexing discovery, and preparing evidentiary exhibits, and providing in-court room assistance). 

The contractor shall serve as a paralegal responsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) with assisting in a wide variety of technical paralegal services, including dealings with healthcare fraud and drug investigations and trials and all other types of cases handled by the Criminal and Civil Divisions. The work requires a sound working
knowledge of the legal system, legal research procedures, and sources of information. The contractor will work in an office setting; some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items is required.


Responsibilities:

The contractor shall perform Paralegal services including but not limited to the following:

  • Provide a variety of direct paralegal services to AUSA staff.
  • Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by AUSA in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents.
  • Seek and locate sources of information, in aid of criminal investigations and trials, through contact or correspondence with other departments and/or agencies of federal, state and local government.
  • Gather factual material independently; read, annotate, and summarize transcripts, files and other factual aspects of the case; obtain financial and statistical information, agency records, court records and other public records; review and analyze documents and draft factual memoranda.
  • Perform specialized detailed legal research as necessary. Draft jury instructions and other trial documents for filing in court.
  • Upload electronic documents and data onto document review platforms and organize folders for review. Participate in review and analysis of electronic documents.
  • Redact documents and transcripts for discovery, including using electronic redaction.
  • Responsible for organizing and processing huge quantities of data and discovery documents, including electronic discovery. Responsible for completeness of discovery productions and for producing discovery.
  • Prepare numerous exhibits for trial.
  • Provide critical assistance in trial preparations. Prepare documents, charts and visual materials for use in trials. Provide technical support, e.g., enlarging charts and photographs and marking exhibits.
  • Provide automated litigation assistance to AUSAs in trial preparation and courtroom presentations. Utilize various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners and plotters.
  • Work closely with other members of case team, including assigned AUSAs, legal assistants, case agents and office Litigation Support staff.



Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Requires paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. 
  • One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate. 
  • Additionally, at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful. Automated litigation support experience valued.
  • Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research. 
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.  
  • Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
  • DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US Citizenship required).

Pay Range:

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.​

$24.14
