Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, the Painter Grade 2 cleans, prepares, and paints parts, using specified procedures and techniques. This position also sets up electrostatic and air-powered paint equipment for use.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspects incoming parts for flaws or lack of finish. Notifies supervisor if flaws or unfinished parts are detected.
  • Scrapes scale and slag from parts and grinds away rust that is detected; treats parts with acid and washes with solvent.
  • Under direct supervision, applies primer to parts and paint in accordance with AMSI and/or customer specifications and requirements.
  • Assists in organizing and cleaning storage areas to maintain efficient operation.  Areas of responsibility include back yard, side yard (and racks), front area of shop, and all storage racks and totes.
  • Maintains a neat, clean and organized work area.
  • Performs all assigned duties in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Performs duties as assigned by lead or supervisor.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience and Skills

  • Entry level; minimum 0 to 12 months of experience.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and power tools related to grinding and buffing.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and learn quickly; self-starter/self-motivated individual.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires a high level of physical flexibility, strength, and stamina, including the ability to: see and assess drawings, photos, and written instructions; audibly hear verbal instructions and mechanical signals (forklifts, cranes, machine alarms, etc.); and speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.

To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, an individual must be willing and able to

  • have full range of body movement: head, neck, shoulders; lift arms overhead; work overhead; reach, lift, push/pull, walk, climb, kneel, bend; good dexterity and range of movement in fingers, hands and wrists.
  • sit for at least three hours.
  • stand on feet for at least three hours.
  • repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • maintain confidence and balance while working on ladders up to 12 feet tall.

EMPLOYEE EQUIPMENT   

Must be able to provide an assortment of tools in a rollaway toolbox and steel-toed boots.
