Packaging Plant Operative / Fitter
Location: Ketton Cement
Shift Pattern: rotative shifts Hours 40
Salary £50,759 (with flexibility for the right skills and experience)
The Role
We are seeking a skilled Packaging Plant Operative / Fitter with an electrical or mechanical bias to join our Packing Dock team. The primary objective of this role is to operate packing dock equipment to safely and efficiently supply packed product for the commercial division, while providing front-line maintenance and breakdown support across the site. This is a hands-on role involving machine operation, fault finding, and mechanical/electrical maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Packing Dock team to ensure planned output volumes of packed products are achieved safely, on time, and in full.
- Carry out front-line mechanical maintenance within including:
- Breakdown repairs
- General machine maintenance
- Welding and fabrication
- Changing belts, bearings, rollers, and bolts
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and/or electrical faults to keep equipment running efficiently.
- Operate packing dock machinery and ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards in line with site requirements.
- Assist with the loading of finished products and unloading of incoming raw materials, including dispatch silos.
- Work alternative shift patterns when required in line with the national agreement.
- Provide operational support to other areas of the plant as needed.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a packaging, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Strong mechanical maintenance or electrical background
- Experience with welding, fabrication, and mechanical breakdowns.
- Comfortable operating machinery and carrying out repairs under pressure.
