What You'll Do:
People Management - Lead a team of Packaging Engineers and provide support and guidance on technical support. Assist in the creation / updating of Development Plans for staff members and complete required performance reviews.
Work closely with the Manager of Packaging Operations on project issues and resolution
Provide technical leadership to packaging engineering staff regarding project prioritization, process validations, and continuous improvements.
Interfaces frequently with inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
Prepares written communication. Conveys information effectively through formal and informal documents with team members, designers, technicians, and other technical personnel, both internal and external to Abbott, using appropriate communication protocols; obtains approval to proceed with proposed action plans.
Support ongoing production and new product introductions.
Monitor and evaluate project and department progress and results.
Participate in cross-functional teams.
Review and approve project plans, protocols, and written reports.
Drive continuous improvement of packaging engineering technical capabilities.
Prepare technical reports, analysis, recommendations, and presentations reflecting the status and results of projects in progress.
Coach, manage, and develop technical staff.
Manage commodity events with technical support to identify root cause quickly to maintain regular production. Gathers manufacturing performance data and performs analysis. Reports findings. Prepares and communicates recommendations and respective action plans to drive cost containment and cost reduction efforts. Executes the recommendations.
Develop, implement, train, and monitor the effectiveness of engineering systems and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Ensure a safe work environment consistent with OSHA requirements and company policies.
Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provide ongoing performance feedback. Set goals aligned with department plans and manage execution through coaching and mentoring.
Maintain a safe and professional work environment.
Comply with applicable regulations, company policies, operating procedures, and task assignments.
Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence. Packaging Engineering degree preferred.
Minimum 12 years in related technical field with packaging discipline preferred
Minimum 3-5 years of people management experience.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality standards.
Proficient in writing protocols, preparing and testing samples, and drawing conclusions.
Proficient in reading and creating engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and schematics.
Extensive working knowledge of packaging materials, supplier processes, and root cause analysis philosophies.
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to set goals and provide constructive feedback.
Effective team collaboration in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills across multiple organizational levels.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills with accountability.
Ability to travel approximately 10–25%, including internationally.

The base pay for this position is
$99,300.00 – $198,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
