Position Overview:

Within the Hand Tools & Storage Group of Stanley Black & Decker we are currently looking for an Associate Packaging Engineer to join our team in Southington, CT.  Our team is focused on Hand Tools under the Stanley, Black & Decker, Craftsman and DeWALT Brands, just to name a few. As an Associate Packaging Engineer with Stanley Black & Decker you’ll have an opportunity to work with a global team of talented designers, engineers, product managers and manufacturing locations. You will support our ongoing efforts to deliver products that help people to build and repair the world we live in.

The Associate Packaging Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development of packaging projects with an understanding of time management and a sensitivity to priorities while delivering world-class structural packaging solutions.

Understanding of packaging development and operations principles from manufacturing to warehouse and distribution systems. Strong problem resolution and decision-making skills.  Able to resolve elevated issues, be creative and resourceful and display sound judgement and demonstrate accountability.  Ability to work with cross functional teams and drive successful attainment of company goals with thoughtful well-rounded solutions.  Ideal candidates should have strong organizational, planning, and project management skills and have the ability to prioritize tasks to meet business requirements and deadlines. Have good written and communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and problem-solving suggestions effectively.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform data entry, validation, consolidation and conversion of packaging data and drawings to SBD BOM Management system
  • Work closely with global packaging team in packaging data preparation / drawing creation and consolidation for transition projects.
  • Assist in developing and qualifying packaging structures to maximize quality/cost based on regionally available materials and testing protocols.
  • Assist in the development of specifications, labeling and approvals of all packaging structure.

Position Requirements:

  • BS or BA in Packaging Engineering preferred
  • 1+ years experience in packaging engineering or packaging design (Co-op/ Internship applicable)
  • Understanding of packaging materials (corrugated, paperboard, plastic), and characteristics for packaging structural design
  • Familiar with Artios CAD, TOPS/Cape.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent attention and accuracy with details.
  • Self-motivated/self-starter with a positive attitude and able to work within teams
  • Must have strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and problem solve
