Job Description

Position Summary 

The P1 Paint Lead is responsible for overseeing daily paint operations to ensure safe, high quality, and on-time production. This role provides direct leadership to hourly paint personnel, enforces quality and safety standards, manages workflow, and serves as the primary liaison between painters and the quality, engineering, maintenance, and leadership teams. 

Responsibilities 

  • Leadership & Accountability 
  • Provide direct supervision to hourly paint personnel 
  • Set high standards for safety, quality, performance, and attendance, and hold people accountable. 
  • Partner with leadership and Human Resources to ensure a positive working environment 
  • Operations & Workflow Management 
  • Plan and execute daily priorities to meet production schedules 
  • Anticipate and mitigate bottlenecks related to materials, cure times, or equipment 
  • Quality 
  • Give feedback to team members on surface preparation, application quality, and defect prevention 
  • Identify and contain paint defects early to minimize rework 
  • Ensure all work meets Trek’s Cosmetic Guidelines 
  • Safety 
  • Enforce PPE requirements, safe material handling, and booth safety standards 
  • Ensure proper ventilation, housekeeping, and flammable material controls 
  • Stop work and escalate issues when unsafe conditions exist 
  • Training & Development 
  • Coach painters on spray technique, defect prevention, and equipment use 
  • Develop backup skills and bench strength within the team 
  • Continuous Improvement 
  • Lead efforts to reduce variability, rework, and first pass defects 
  • Support standard work, housekeeping improvements, and process optimization 

Qualifications 

  • 3-5 years of experience leading or supervising employees in a manufacturing or industrial paint environment. 
  • Working knowledge of:  
  • Industrial coatings and application methods 
  • Paint booth operations and environmental controls 
  • Safety practices related to solvents, isocyanates, and flammable materials 
  • Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills 
  • Ability to lead on the floor and address issues in real time
