The GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, AZ strives to enhance the local community and provide an upscale, yet affordable, golfing experience. Our public golf course provides a hands-on learning environment for GCU business students and serves as the home course for GCU Golf student-athletes. Our mission is to position the former Maryvale Golf Course as a community and university asset.

Grand Canyon University is seeking an Outside Services Lead Attendant to support the mission of Grand Canyon University through GCU’s Golf Course department. The purpose of this position is to assist with running day to day operations at golf course and to provide first class customer service.

Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:

  • Initiate contact with guest with a warm welcome and the willingness to assist the guest.
  • Serve the guest with respect and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Follow all opening and closing procedures for outside service areas.
  • Follow procedures in setting up and breaking down driving range.
  • Ensure range balls are cleaned after each pick and always ready for first tee.
  • Ensure Range Den Caddies filled with balls consistently and constantly.
  • Ensure water buckets and club cleaners are changed as needed.
  • Ensure spike cleaners are cleaned daily and surrounding area is kept clean.
  • Ensure practice balls picked from driving range tee boxes and range each night.
  • Ensure all service work areas are cleaned and readied for next day’s operations (Bag drops, cart barn, driving range).
  • Clean golf carts, and stage neatly and orderly with scorecard, pencil, sand and seed mix, bag straps clipped and trash free.
  • Ensure all golf carts are washed, dried, stocked and stored each night.
  • Ensure golf car rotation strategy followed daily.
  • Assist managers with daily and preventive maintenance of golf carts as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used and Responsibility

  • Knowledge and understanding of game of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.
  • Ability to demonstrate passion for providing exceptional customer service through every guest interaction to create repeat guest visits.
  • Demonstrate ability to go above and beyond to meet guest expectations.
  • Always provide a professional image through appearance and dress.
  • Must be willing to dress according to golf dress code.
  • Able to work well independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to learn the structure and function of all clubhouse and golf course.
  • Basic mathematical ability, ability to count and reconcile cash.
  • Ability to learn and follow all safety, emergency and accident prevention procedures.
  • Able to use fire extinguishers and any other emergency equipment needed to ensure personal and guest safety.

Experience/ Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in customer service/hospitality environment.
  • Trained in First Aid, CPR & AED or able to complete training needed on own time within 30 days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must be able to have flexible schedule, which may require early mornings, weekends and holidays if needed.
  • Must be available to work anytime within the hours of 5:00 am to 7:00 p.m. any of the 7 days of the week (may be subject to change based upon business need).
  • Must be able to endure standing or moving for up to 85% of work shift (6.5 hours)
