JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The University Libraries is seeking applicants for part-time job of Outreach and Student Engagement Assistant. This part-time position supports the Penn State University Libraries’ Leisure Reading collection through programming, collection and display maintenance, and the development of physical and digital reading spaces. The role also assists with library outreach and wellbeing initiatives, event support, and the upkeep of student-centered learning environments. Strong communication, organization, and reliability are essential, with some flexibility for occasional evening events.

Job duties include:

  • Collaborating with coworkers to plan, implement and assess the Leisure Reading collection (both physical and digital collections); 
  • Helping to plan and run programming throughout the year that supports the Leisure Reading collection;  

  • Developing and maintaining multiple book displays and digital bookshelves; 

  • Supporting the planning, implementation, and assessment efforts of various outreach initiatives; 

  • Advising on associated marketing efforts; 

  • Event attendance and support; 

  • Managing the support of student-centered learning spaces (classrooms and sensory rooms); 

  • Supervising classroom whiteboard cleaning, supplies, and restocking. 

  

Additional applicant requirements include: 

  • A general knowledge of Penn State and the Libraries 

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills 

  • Excellent time management skills 

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks 

  • High degree of reliability 

  • Windows/Microsoft Office/Internet competence 

Compensation:

The starting rate for this job is $15/hr.
