Position Summary

Akicita Federal is seeking a qualified Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) to provide professional nursing services in an ambulatory care setting at the Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca, Arizona. The RN will support outpatient clinic operations by providing direct patient care, administering medications and treatments, carrying out provider orders, supporting IV therapy and infusion-related care, documenting services in the electronic health record, and coordinating with the healthcare team to ensure safe, timely, and effective patient care.

This position requires strong clinical judgment, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, providers, nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Outpatient RN will be responsible for:

-Receive, initiate, and carry out medical orders placed by providers.
-Administer medications, oxygen, IV therapy, and other prescribed treatments.
-Perform IV starts and support infusion-related care, including accessing PICC lines and/or ports.
-Measure and assess vital signs, height, weight, neurological status, medication effects, visual acuity, and hearing.
-Observe, evaluate, and document patient condition, care provided, and changes in clinical status.
-Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other healthcare staff to coordinate patient care.
-Support adult and pediatric immunization administration in accordance with accepted schedules and practices.
-Perform quality control checks, including lab checks and capillary blood glucose monitoring.
-Collect or assist with collection of specimens, including blood, urine, stool, and other samples.
-Recognize life-threatening emergencies and initiate resuscitation measures or other emergency procedures as appropriate.
-Identify adverse reactions to medications, treatments, and procedures and initiate appropriate interventions in collaboration with the medical provider.
-Answer and screen telephone calls related to patient care.
-Use the electronic health record for timely and accurate chart documentation.
-Complete chart notes on the day services are rendered, preferably immediately following patient encounters.
-Maintain compliance with facility policies, clinical standards, and applicable healthcare requirements.
-Participate in required training, meetings, competencies, and unit-specific orientation as assigned.
-Maintain professional conduct, personal hygiene, grooming, and attire consistent with healthcare facility expectations.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

-Active, current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
-Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
-Minimum of 1 year of experience in an ambulatory care or outpatient setting.
-Minimum of 1 year of experience with IV infusions.
-Minimum of 1 year of experience with IV starts, PICC lines, and/or ports.
-Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program, including diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, graduate degree, or higher-level nursing degree.
-Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
-Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
-Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
-Ability to complete required security, credentialing, background, fingerprinting, and exclusion screening requirements prior to starting work.
-Valid state driver’s license or government-issued identification card.

Work Schedule

Outpatient services are generally provided Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Schedules may change based on clinic operations, patient care needs, staffing shortages, leave coverage, or additional facility requirements. Shifts may be adjusted to meet peak patient care activity and operational needs.
