The Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition diagnoses and treats patients with digestive problems and conditions. Our specialists use innovative diagnostic tools and treatments such as upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for esophageal, stomach and duodenal disorders, endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration, ablative techniques for Barrett’s esophagus, colonoscopies, and therapeutic interventions for colonic disease. As an Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant on the team, you will assist in the provision of care and treatment to patients under the direction of an RN or physician.
This role will allow you to maintain personal growth and development through the on-going process of formal and informal education.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Obtain vital signs, height and weight as directed.
Collect patient specimens and prepare specimens appropriately for transport to labs.
Prepare patients for exams, tests and special procedures and assist with exams and treatments as applicable.
Complete the rooming process, including review of medications, updating allergies, identifying pain level and asking regulatory screening questions.
Identify, document and report changes to an RN and or MD.
Assist with indirect patient care.
Perform patient treatments as directed, including applying heat or cold, simple sterile dressing changes and measuring, applying, changing and removing casts, braces and splints.
Repair casts and apply and instruct patients in the use of DME.
Remove dressings, sutures & staples.
Stock supplies and linens as applicable.
Clean and restock dressing supply carts, check emergency carts and empty needle boxes using appropriate safety measures.
Assist in regulatory and safety monitoring and compliance audits as directed.
Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Understanding of human anatomy, basic patient care activities and math
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within new hire period
One year of recent healthcare experience in a hospital or ambulatory, homecare, assisted living, nursing home or long-term care setting
Additional formal training/education may substitute some or all of the required experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Proficient in the use of an electronic medical record
Physical Requirements:
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
