Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Fabricates orthoses or prosthesis as delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with department scope of practice.

  • Create positive plaster molds, strip negative casts, thermoform plastic, cutout, grind and smooth plastic for orthoses or prostheses.

  • Contour, drill, polish metal work for devices and add closures as requested.  Sewing materials as required and assist practitioners on a PRN basis as needed.

  • Fit patients with shoes or fabricate shoe lifts

  • Track and order materials for inventory and manage equipment

  • Cares for and comes in contact with infants, toddlers, preschool, and school age patients

  • Interface with all clinical and lab staff regarding application of varied techniques to produce the most technically advanced and functional O&P devices.

  • Contribute to the training of residents and students as assigned

  • Perform all duties of the production assistant as needed

Required Skills/Abilities

  • High school degree or equivalent required.

  • Certificate from an ABC recognized O&P school, or a minimum of one year’s applicable technical experience required.

  • Must have sufficient knowledge and capability to fabricate all types of orthoses or prostheses as directed by the lab supervisor

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills

  • Physical Requirements: Lifting/Carrying, Pushing/Pulling, Repetitive Movement, & Stooping/Kneeling/Bending

  • An Individual in this position will be required to list or carry weight in this group: Between 75-100 lbs

  • Sensory/Communicative activities essential to the performance of this position: Hearing, Seeing, Speaking, Feeling, Smelling

  • An Individual in this position will be exposed to: Inside environment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Loud noise, Chemical hazards, and Respiratory hazards
