This is PRN position. Schedule needs will vary - day, evenings and nights are all possibilities.

Pay Range

$22.90 - $34.35

Major Responsibilities:

  • Applies casts for all types of injuries/conditions including fractures, clubfoot, and diabetic foot wounds, total contact casts; makes bivalve casts for Physical Therapy. Places and removes casts/splints in orthopedic clinic.
  • Assists EC and orthopedic physicians with reductions of dislocations and fractures in the EC. Assists OR physicians with application of orthopedic products. Observes sterile technique when warranted during procedures.
  • Applies and removes sterile dressings, staples, sutures, or external fixators. Assist physicians with the insertion of Steinman pins and cervical tongs upon request. Maintain C-spine precautions while applying appropriate stabilization for neck fractures or dislocations.

  • Performs appropriate measurements for fabrication, application, and adjustments of specialty braces.
  • Assembles over-bed frames, trapeze, traction and Rotorest beds.
  • Orders supplies; maintains orthopedic par levels in multiple areas throughout the hospital.
  • Prioritizes patient treatments including coverage for orthopedic clinics, wound care clinic, Children’s Hospital, Children’s Health Center, and all areas inside MCCG 24 hours per day/7 days per week.
  • Orders supplies; maintain orthopedic par levels in multiple areas throughout the hospital.
  • Post charges to patients’ accounts for any orthopedic products used in treatment.
  • Monitor supply usage and assists with inventory control.
  • Provide oversight for the appropriate ordering of specialty orthopedic applications for the hospital.
  • Document procedure performed and teachings provided to all patients treated
  • Committed to coworkers by being flexible in scheduling.
  • Expedites throughput by efficiently performing patient care

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

None required

Education Required:

Associates degree in Orthopedic Technology from an institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission or equivalent commission or agency. Three (3) years of directly applicable experience providing equivalent skills may be substituted for the associates degree in Orthopedic Technology.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity. Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio. Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics. Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation. Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly. Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation. Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors. Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self directed to complete jobs as ordered. Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations. Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously. Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously. Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize work space to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner. If job class is identified as falling under POPE C, the individual must pass the cardiac recovery test.
