Position Overview
Cigna is looking for a talented Oracle Senior database administrator to support and build new Oracle Databases. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 - 11 years experience in production database operation support, database development, database administration, knowledge of general database concepts, and server administration. Experience with database administration task automation a big plus.
Responsibilities
- Assist with intake requests, collaborate with the database engineering team and the database production support team and internal customers to deliver an enterprise-level database backend solution for top-tier applications ensuring infrastructure, use, supportability and cost align with company standards
- Responsible for all aspects of database administration for Oracle databases including problem solving, configuration, and implementation efforts for large and / or complex projects with an emphasis in operation excellence and continuous improvement of database related processes and procedures
- Collaborate with application architects, scrum masters, product managers, business analysts and technical management team to design, develop and document databases, schemas, tables, functions, triggers, procedures, relationships and other necessary aspects of the database
- Clearly articulate database standards and policies to business customers.
- Provide database solutions for organizational needs while working in accordance with internal policies and procedures
- Works with project teams to create needed database solutions
- Responsible for quality control and auditing of database access to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data
- Consults with and advises users on access to and performance of databases
- Works directly with users to resolve data conflicts and inappropriate data usage
- Responsible for ensuring high levels of data available and database performance
- Tunes and optimizes SQL Statements, Instance Parameters, and Data Storage, including the identification of performance related issues
- Creates database objects
- document standards for where new rules apply or ad hoc changes are driven by project requirements.
- Participation in the design, creation, and maintenance of databases
- Participate in scrum/work assignment meetings
- Responsible for indexes, buffers, and cache
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Implementation of High Availability, replication and mirroring
- Providing access and limiting unauthorized access
- Database administration skills on 12c & 19c, 12c/19c RAC, and ASM in Linux is required
- Performance testing evaluation
- Implementation of the SQL and Windows security model
- Taking backups using native Oracle tools and 3rd party backup tools such as DDBoost and Cohesity
- Excellent PL/SQL and SQL PLUS development and tuning skills
- Strong collaboration skills and experience working across multiple teams both within a division and enterprise-wide
- Superior skills using Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Strong interpersonal, problem solving, facilitation, and prioritization skills
- Strong technical acumen, able to ensure that technical solutions, strategies, practices, and governance deliver business and customer value
- Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision and provide direction and oversight to application team.
Required Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 10-12 years of Database experience
- Must have hands-on Oracle experience as a systems DBA on 12c & 19c, with the latest tuning and optimization techniques.
- Hands-on Oracle DB upgrade experience, Oracle 12c to 19c is required.
- Understanding relational and dimensional data-modeling is required in addition to experience designing and developing new databases and schemas.
- Required experience with tools such as:
- Monitoring tools: New Relic, Dynatrace OEM, Splunk
- Scheduling tools: ESP
- DBA tools: TOAD, PuTTY
- Experience in database performance monitoring and tuning skills, SQL and Stored-Procedure tuning OEM AWR/ADDM/GRID.
- Understanding of the SQL language and ability to write SQL queries
- Experience with query tuning, performance tuning and database design
- Experience in developing and maintaining MS SQL Server databases, data warehouse and multidimensional DBs
- Installing SQL server
- Using encryption at a database level
- Proven track record of implementing changes that have measurable impact
Desired Experience:
- General knowledge and usage of Agile work systems (scrum, Kanban, etc)
- Experience using Service Now for Incident, Request and Change tracking
- Development experience with one or more modern scripting/automation languages (Ansible, Python, PowerShell, etc.)
- Experience with other SQL and NoSQL database technologies (PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MariaDB/MySQL, etc.)
- Replication tool experience; GoldenGate and QLIK is highly desirable.
- Data masking implementation
- AWS and Oracle RAC
