A Brief Overview
The Surgical Coordinator Supervisor is a representative for the O.R in the surgical area and acts as a clinical/technical resource for staff and physicians. The Surgical coordinator supervisor works with the Perioperative Charge Nurse, Lead Sterile Processing Department, Materials Coordinator and Manager in the coordination of staff, equipment, and resources. He/she has responsibility and accountability for coordinating and/or providing patient care based on the practice standards or care appropriate for the age of the patient and coordinates and directs the daily functions of the Central Processing Department.

What you will do
  • Responsible for developing the technical and clinical skills of department staff and new hires.
  • Provide at least one in-service in line up per month, and one in-service in Late Start in-service per year (i.e. positioning aides, use of OR tables with attachments, new as well as existing products, patient safety, etc.)
  • Demonstrate clinical and/or technical expertise and serve as a resource person for the unit staff and hospital personnel.
  • Function as a liaison to help promote better communication and meet the needs of clinical specialties.
  • Seek input from staff and coordinate the maintenance of preference cards to ensure accuracy. Meet with MD’s to obtain preference card information, provide tour of Perioperative area, work with MD in OR for initial cases to ensure requests are met
  • Ensure equipment, supplies and instrumentation are available and functioning. Troubleshoot when required and follow through by assuring the necessary repair is arranged.
  • Coordinate equipment, instrumentation, and supply needs for assigned services with OR, Business Manager or designee.
  • Works with scheduling when patients are added.
  • Participate in planning capital needs for the OR as well as maintain appropriate par levels for specialty items.
  • Function as a liaison between Sterile Processing, and surgical product vendor to ensure proper operation instrumentation and equipment available.
  • Modify instrument trays to ensure contents are relevant and streamlined and communicate changes with OR staff, Sterile Processing Department, Surgery Scheduling Supervisor and Patient Care Coordinator.
  • Maintain high level of familiarity with equipment, instruments, supplies by performing front line duties.
  • Promotes positive Quality Assurance, Safety and Infection Control issues.
  • Attends all given task force meetings, which concerns the Central Processing Department.
  • Participates in review and evaluation of the quality of care provided to the patients.
  • Practices cost effective use of staff and supplies and suggests alternate approaches for increasing cost effectiveness, in collaboration with leadership.
  • Collaborates with leadership in observing and evaluating employee’s performance based on skill, knowledge, productivity, communications and attendance.
  • Consistently notifies appropriate staff in changes in tray contents or inventory supplies.
  • Collaborates with leadership on unit goal setting.
  • Collaborates with leadership with in-services for employee(s) on new equipment or procedures.
  • Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Healthcare – Tri-Valley’s patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions.

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associate's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications
  • Completion of operating room or surgical technician course Required
  • 1+ year to 2 years experience as an Operating Room Technician Preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Good communication skills with the ability to read, write and understand the English language.
  • Leadership skills in delegation, organization and coordination.
  • Ability to work as a valued team member.

  • Effective organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, physicians and ancillary staff.
  • Knowledgeable about current practice and compliance requirements within job role and specialty.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Association of Surgical Technologist (AST) certification
  • National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT) certification

Licenses and Certifications
  • Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $48.42 - $65.93 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
