Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for an OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER, Position Description Number D1211000 and is part of the MDNG CSMS, National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • The primary purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, and inspections on optical and non-optical precision instruments and related devices. This position performs the following duties: 1. Repairs, modifies, overhauls, inspects, troubleshoots, tests, adjusts, and cleans the optics and supporting mechanical and electrical elements of complex panoramic telescopes. 2. Visually inspects optical instrument equipment and operates mechanisms to determine serviceability, damaged or worn parts, and malfunctions. 3. Abides by safety precautions when working with compressors, hoses, and tank testing equipment. Analyzes and tests continuity of electrical circuits by utilizing test equipment such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, and multi-voltage test set. 4. Serves as a commodity inspector during technical inspections, Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET) or Maintenance Assistance and (MAIT) Instruction Team. 5. Provides technical advice and assistance to units and field maintenance shops throughout the state. 6.Required to inspect, diagnose, and repair high voltage power sources used with night vision devices, aware of the hazards involved in checking high voltage circuits. Qualifications: Military Grades: Enlisted E4 and above GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to apply knowledge of optical theory and construction principles in order to test, repair, align, and collimate a variety of complex optical equipment. Experience which demonstrates the ability to understand and apply instructions, and specifications; and interpret blueprints and diagrams of optical paths and mechanical linkages. Experience using hand and power tools common to an optical shop. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training repairing, rebuilding, overhauling systems and components of optical instrument equipment. Experience in diagnosing malfunction in determining remedy where complex relationships exist among optical systems and supporting mechanical and electrical systems. Experience in the use of a variety of measuring and testing equipment. Experience interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, schematics and work orders. Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed.
