Ross Hall Clinic Braehead in Glasgow is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.
We have an opportunity for a Ophthalmic Technician to join their team of staff in the Ophthalmology department. No ophthalmology experience is required for this post and full training will be provided.
This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.
Duties of this role include:
- Carry out a range of ophthalmic tests such as visual acuity, OCT scans, biometry, tonometry and visual fields testing.
- Support ophthalmologists and nurses during clinics and minor procedures.
- Prepare patients for examination, explaining procedures clearly and providing reassurance. Equipment & Clinical Environment.
- Set up, calibrate and maintain ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
- Ensure equipment is used safely and report any faults promptly.
- Maintain clean and well-organised clinical areas in line with infection prevention policies.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Experience working in a healthcare or clinical environment.
- Understanding of basic eye anatomy and ophthalmic terminology.
- Strong patient care skills with excellent communication and empathy.
- Good IT skills and ability to use clinical software. • Ability to work with precision, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Commitment to professional development and safe patient care.
- Previous experience in an ophthalmology setting. (Desirable)
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician qualification (e.g. OSC/Level 3 Diploma or equivalent). (Desirable)
- Experience using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment (e.g. OCT, tonometer, autorefractor).
- Knowledge of General Optical Council (GOC) or Royal College of Ophthalmologists standards.
- Experience supporting ophthalmic minor ops or intravitreal injection clinics. (Desirable)
