Job Summary
Exciting opportunity to join ConocoPhillips Australia’s M&R team as an Operations Technician – M&R Inlec.Position Overview
ConocoPhillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.
Based on Curtis Island, the Operations Technician – Maintenance (Inlec) will contribute to building an organisation committed to best practices and operational excellence, with a strong focus on achieving zero injuries and incidents while maintaining high standards of operational performance.
The Inlec discipline ensures consistency in the daily operation of the facility, with an emphasis on risk assessments, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), process safety, policy and procedural compliance, quality, process control, and production optimisation.
This role provides technical expertise in instrumentation, electrical systems, and controls—including QMI and HV switching—to the Maintenance Team. Responsibilities include executing regular preventative and predictive maintenance, as well as corrective maintenance when required. The position is critical to ensuring the reliability and integrity of the operating asset.
The role operates on a 9-day fortnight schedule and is based on-site at Curtis Island.
Supported by the Maintenance Supervisor ensure you understand all work to be executed in the current revision, work to the plan and identify early what needs to be prepared up front to achieve this.
Maintain disciplined compliance to all work orders processes, ensuring they are closed out and ensure any deviations or discrepancies are communicated red lined and improved upon utilising COP document control procedures.
Contribute towards achieving and maintaining good performance with respect to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by understanding how they are created and how they can be influenced.
Maintain the plant to achieve optimum continuous performance by completing tasks and Plant Maintenance (PM) routines within their competency as per the schedule.
Report all equipment defects and/or faults and raise SAP notifications accordingly.
Ensure competency profile remains 100% complete
Ensure teamwork and the SPIRIT values are promoted and supported at all times.
Engage in the coaching and development of other Operation Technicians Inlec.
Cultural alignment with ConocoPhillips’ SPIRIT Values
Instrumentation / Electrical Trade Certificate (Inlec).
Current electrical license.
Experience working within a team in an industrial or resources environment.
Sound understanding of predictable & corrective concepts and repair procedures.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Basic computing skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite
Experience with the use of a computerised maintenance management system, preferably SAP.
Ability to read and understand P&ID’s and Process Flow Diagrams.
Accepts HSE ownership.
Experience in the following would be preferred:
Electrical High Voltage experience.
LNG/hydrocarbons, Petro chemical, complex minerals / chemical processing, Power generation operations.
Distributed Control System (DCS) with gas turbine drivers for gas compression and/or power generation.
