In this role, you will be responsible for performing various tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the mining services provided at the Gomez Quarry on behalf of our company. Responsibilities include daily oversight and direction of all production and maintenance activities related to the dragline at the quarry. Also requires daily interaction with customers and administrative duties as assigned.

Job Title:        Operations Supervisor

Location:        Phoenix, AZ

Reports To:    Vice President Western Operations

Department:   Operations/Production

Essential Duties:

  • Supervises the daily activities of  heavy equipment operators, mechanics and electrical personnel to facilitate dragline production.          
  • Performs administrative duties associated with supervision, such as, recording time worked, evaluating individual performance, counseling and disciplining unacceptable behavior, and assisting individuals with personal or performance problems with the assistance of Human Resources.
  • Coordinates work with other departments and vendors to minimize down time and maximize productivity in order to meet product delivery schedules at the lowest cost per unit.
  • Has a clear understanding of the total cost of the operation and the impact to NAM’s profitability.
  • Effectively plans and schedules production and maintenance work using NAM personnel, third part contractors, proper materials, and required equipment.
  • Coordinates all safety activities to ensure proper training for the personnel in order to maintain or exceed compliance with North American Mining and MSHA safety standards.
  • Monitors work to ensure that environmental standards are met.
  • Maintains records of equipment component hours and productivity to establish current and future production schedules, maintenance costs, and predict equipment availability.
  • Facilitates direct line of communication with customer personnel.
  • Performs job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and State and Federal environmental regulations.

Other Duties:

  • Trains employees on equipment and tools to meet MSHA requirements.
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle and maintain a valid driving record (MVR) in good standing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as maintenance planning and business development activities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be fluent in English, bilingual a plus.
  • Must be willing to work a rotating schedule.
  • Must have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of surface mining equipment and general maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of MSHA regulations, general safety practices, and environmental standards for mining.
  • Ability to direct the work of crew members in an effective manner.
  • Mechanical or electrical background is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory and/or equivalent experience (fill-in, lead person, etc.) in a Metal/Non-Metal or Coal environment.
