General Description
The Operations Supervisor is responsible to manage a team of operators conducting general distribution warehouse activities, including inventory sorting and put away, picking, and packing orders using warehouse systems and equipment. The Supervisor must plan, direct, and analyze the productivity metrics of the team while engaging each operator to work safely, accurately, and in a cost-effective manner. Additionally, as a people leader the expectation is to promote continuous process improvements and build a culture centered around employee engagement and LS&Co values.
About the job:
- Supervise a layered team of non-exempt employees to manage workflow and achieve daily objectives within set metrics. Up to 90% of time on warehouse floor.
- Ensure teams of a schedule daily activities to maximize available resources, including creating a daily tactical plan focused on safety, costs, and workforce requirements. Plan must consider how all work groups are impacted by decisions to redirect workflow and/or resources and be adaptable to a continuously evolving workflow
- Create a safe working environment for all team members by ensuring the site is compliant with all federal, state, local, and LS&Co standards
- Support the development of performance metrics for work groups and clearly communicate to teams the inputs and outputs that will be monitored for continuous improvements
- Understand and interpret cost analysis data based on work group metrics, productivity, and efficiency to create workforce action plans
- Present work group performance results in various forums, including work group meetings, leadership production reviews, and town hall meetings
- Ensure within teams that policies and procedures around health & safety, time & attendance, productivity, and all other programs are administered consistently
- Communicate workflow improvement opportunities to Production Planning or other cross functional teams, and participate in testing or implementation as required
- Provide input for projects that align to the site and company’s strategic business plans
- Coach teams to understand how their activities support other teams, DC metrics, and LS&CO business objectives
- Mentor team members
About you:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in supply chain, distribution, or related field
- 2+ years supervisory experience
- Knowledge of demand forecasting and distribution planning processes
- Experience developing action plans to support attainment of business metrics and goals, including assessing work group capabilities
- Ability to train, motivate, and lead in a layered team environment, and to actively engage in constructive feedback, coaching and mentorship
- Ability to effectively communicate cross functionally in a fast-paced environment and to collaborate with senior leadership
- Solve problems and clear roadblocks for your team by breaking down situations in a systematic way, making comparisons of different aspects to generate solutions
- Comfortable seeking opinions from individuals or teams, actively listening, challenging ideas, and finding consensus
- Understands data flow and process in warehouse management systems; Manhattan WMOS preferred
- Experience using business intelligence and reporting platforms
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel
- Knowledgeable regarding lean manufacturing and change management (5S, Gemba, Kata, Muda, etc.)
