Job SummaryThe Manager, Operations oversees arena changeovers, conversions and operations.  This role is responsible for day-to-day operations; working with the Sr. Director Operations to ensure all event needs are met, and working with the event team to advance the shows, ensuring the show contract is properly fulfilled within the show budget. This position will work closely with staff to provide a high-level customer service to ensure a friendly, safe environment at all events, and work with the operations team on developing policies and procedures, assist with planning, operating, budget forecasting and event cost estimates. Additionally, the Operations Manager will handle staffing, daily administration, oversee equipment and supplies inventory, and provide input on venue improvements.

Essential Duties:

Operational Execution    

  • Work closely with the event operations team on developing policies and procedures, assisting in operations planning, operating budget forecasting and event  cost estimates, and overseeing staff for assigned duties and projects.
  • Lead supervisors and oversee employees in various functions to ensure a high level of customer service, while preparing for and executing day of show operations, front and back of house.  Including but not limited to conversion of the arena to and from as it pertains to hockey, basketball, concerts and other events, including stage area, dressing rooms and hospitality areas.
  • Work with all departments to create a friendly, safe environment at all events through proper training and management. Implement and train all employees on the operating procedures, preventive maintenance schedules, emergency plans, and safety/risk management policies that conform to T-Mobile Center standards.
  • Ensure all events have adequate equipment and supplies to function properly. Work with members of the event operations team to procure these items at the most competitive price. Negotiate vendor contracts and maintain good working relationships with vendors.
  • Work cooperatively with the appropriate departments on construction, renovation and equipment changes and/or purchases.
  • Oversee and coordinate the repair and maintenance of facility equipment, including basketball court, basketball goals, dasherboards, ice equipment, arena bowl seats, variable rise seating and retractable seats, along with any other operations equipment on an as-needed basis. Assist and engage in venue improvements and capital projects by providing recommendations for improvements and working with Sr. Director Operations to obtain bids, develop ROI (Return on Investment) analyses, and oversee projects to completion. Ensure the venue is ready for opening and report any maintenance/supply needs to Sr. Director Operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee staff training programs, including an ice resurfacer training program to maintain an adequate supply of back-up operators and to ensure staff obtain technical knowledge of the dasher and glass hockey system.
  • Ensure the overall cleanliness of the inside and outside of the arena, as well as the equipment and mechanical areas.  Assist with cleaning duties as needed. 

Administrative (HR, Finance, Asset Management)          

  • Maintain a diverse team of 20-30 conversion crew members by recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Collaborate with the event services department to determine the in-house labor numbers to ensure adequate staffing for the show needs during load-in, show, and load-out.                     
  • Prepare a weekly schedule and report of facility operations for the Sr. Director Operations.        
  • Keep records on all maintenance and repairs to arena machinery and equipment.  Work closely with the Manager, Facility Maintenance, regarding the timeframe, needs and storage of all the warranty information, instruction manuals and vendor contacts.              
  • Assist in keeping an accurate inventory of all facility assets for annual asset reporting to the client.                  

Required Qualifications (Job Knowledge, Skills, and Education):

  • A minimum education level of:    BA/BS Degree (4-year) in a related field.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related work experience
  • Previous experience recruiting, training and managing a diverse staff in a venue environment.
  • Ability to resolve conflict in an effective, professional manner.
  • General knowledge and experience in operational procedures, facility conversions, and event-related services
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); and can learn required business systems
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing in English
  • Strong organizational/ project management skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to read and comprehend drawings, operations instructions and other related setup materials.
  • Experience operating hand tools and can lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAD certification is a plus
  • Music industry and live music experience preferred
  • Previous management experience and strong leadership skills
  • Prior experience in budgeting and managing capital improvement projects
  • Working knowledge of building asset and inventory systems, including experience managing a CMMS program
