SUMMARY

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operational activities, driving process efficiency, and leading cross-functional teams to achieve performance goals. This role combines hands-on leadership with strategic planning to ensure smooth execution across departments. This position excels in team development, workflow optimization, and data-driven decision-making, while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate in developing strategic plans and recommendations to drive growth within the brokerage division.
  • Ensure that truck brokerage remains competitive by monitoring market trends and adjusting strategies accordingly.
  • Expand business by increasing volume with existing clients and acquiring new accounts.
  • Negotiate competitive freight rates with carriers to optimize profitability.                                                                                             
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers.      
  • Train and mentor carrier sales reps and account managers.          
  • Act as a liaison between sales, pricing, account management, and carrier sales.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for carrier sales, customer service, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and engage with shippers to enhance service offerings and available tools.
  • Communicate company policies and qualification standards to internal operations teams and carriers directly to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Address customer needs and resolve complex issues with a focus on service excellence.
  • Lead and support the truck brokerage team, providing guidance and oversight to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Assist in creating and managing departmental budgets, ensuring cost control and profitability.
  • Track and analyze load profitability, identifying opportunities to improve margins.
  • Optimize use of transportation management systems and reporting tools for better visibility and decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through automation and digital tools.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in business, transportation, or related field or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.  Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation or supply chain related field.  Lean Six Sigma preferred.

  • Knowledgeable in DOT regulations and compliance standards. 
  • Effective team player with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.                                                                                
  • Demonstrated success in developing, improving, and streamlining processes to achieve organizational goals.                                     
  • Capable of managing diverse projects with varying scopes and complexities.                                                                                               
  • Familiar with environmental and legal considerations in commodity transportation.
