Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, ATS Learning Course Delivery (MACD), the Operational Training Specialist is accountable for developing, implementing, maintaining and/or supporting all simulation components of the training programs. Work involves simulation delivery via pseudo pilot positions, as well as support of Voice Recognition simulation delivery when required. The OTS develop and maintain simulation as well as provide regular simulator maintenance. The OTS also provide national support as a working simulation specialist subject matter expert on varied projects related to procedures, local and national refresher programs for Operations, End User Projects as well as new and/or changes to the simulation systems and tools.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develops, maintains, executes, and enhances simulation exercises, databases, and OTS related documentation, ensuring standardization and conformance to policies, standards, and criteria.

  • Supports the delivery of simulation training activities.

  • Supports local or national multi-disciplinary project implementation teams.

  • Works with the MACD and other stakeholders to identify the effectiveness of simulation delivery and opportunities for improvements. Determines simulation impacts in such areas as procedures, systems, technology, and other quality control systems.

  • Identifies, builds, tests, and implements changes to region-specific courseware and simulation because of changes to operational directives, airspace structure, new or updated technology, and/or changes to Operational Training objectives.

  • Co-ordinates, prepares, distributes, and supports all data files required by simulators in use at the local training unit.

  • Troubleshoots simulation tools issues and follows up with higher level support as necessary.

  • Trains stakeholders on the operation of simulation tools and equipment.

  • Provides oversight for the Supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Successful completion of secondary school.

Experience:

  • Experience working in a professional and collaborative team environment.

  • Experience using technical systems to complete work tasks.

  • Experience working in a learner-focused environment.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of aircraft operating characteristics and pilot behaviors.

  • Knowledge of airspace and its organization.

  • Knowledge of the NAV CANADA organization, roles and responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of SharePoint, Workday, Teams, Microsoft Office suite of programs.

Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively, demonstrate initiative and sound judgement.

  • Ability to learn quickly and to think creatively and flexibly.

  • Ability to use SharePoint Online and various Microsoft Office programs including but not exclusively Word, Excel, and Teams.

  • Ability to communicate effectively; written and verbal.

  • Ability to adapt to new technology and processes.

Working conditions:

  • Requirement for extended periods of high degrees of visual and auditory concentration demands as well as extended periods in seated or standing positions.

  • Travel may be required.

  • Work schedule is Monday to Friday. Some evening shifts may be required based on operational requirements. 

Flexible work arrangements:

  • This position is onsite and not eligible for a flexible work arrangement.

Pay Range:

  • Training (ATT-0): $48,164.

  • Qualified (ATT-5): $88,493 - $108,739.

  • The Trainee level of pay (ATT-0) for new hires will apply for the first 90 calendar days for OTS trainees, after which time the employee shall be paid the full position rate (ATT-5).
