Scottish Water

Operational Specialist - Income, Admin and Team Leader Supplement

Edinburgh or Glasgow Full time

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

How’s this for job satisfaction? At Scottish Water we look after Scotland's most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time.

Sound good? We’re looking for an Operational Specialist to join our CSD Income, Admin and Team Leader Supplement Team. You’ll play a key role in making sure our out-of-hours Team Leader standby supplement runs smoothly, transparently and is trusted across Scottish Water.

This role combines strong stakeholder management with a real eye for detail. You’ll work with sensitive and confidential information, so data quality matters. By working closely with colleagues across CSD, People Services and Payroll, you’ll help to ensure our end-to-end processes are robust, well-governed and operate effectively.

What you’ll do

You’ll coordinate and administer the processes that manage changes to Team Leader standby supplements, making sure everything follows the right governance and is accurately recorded. You’ll maintain rotas, track changes, and ensure staffing updates are reflected correctly and on time.

A big part of the role is data. You’ll analyse information from corporate systems, cross-checking data to spot issues, trends or inconsistencies. When something doesn’t look right, you’ll see it through to resolution, coordinating corrective action and keeping stakeholders informed.

You’ll own communication between the Customer Service Delivery leadership team and the Team Leader Supplement Admin Team, keeping clear, transparent and accessible records. You’ll also complete accurate calculations to support Payroll with supplement payments and administer the Network Support Officer supplement scheme.

Alongside this, you’ll analyse overtime worked across CSD, identifying trends and sharing insights with senior stakeholders to support decision-making. While the role is a mix of administration and analysis, you’ll also be flexible, stepping in to support wider team resilience when needed.

What you’ll need

You’ll have experience coordinating and running business processes, with strong organisational skills and a methodical approach. You’ll be comfortable working with data, analysing information and presenting clear insights to stakeholders.

You’ll be confident using Excel and SharePoint, with strong written and verbal communication skills. You’ll have experience of data analysis and be comfortable using Power BI as part of your day-to-day work.

Because you’ll be handling sensitive and confidential information, you’ll be someone who’s trusted, discreet and pays close attention to detail. You’ll be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to manage your workload effectively.

Experience of pay-related administration or analysis, and using tools like Power Apps or Power BI, would be an advantage. But what matters most is your ability to keep processes running smoothly, accurately and with confidence.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £36,410. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £46,990.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Wednesday 21st January 2026.

If you’re shortlisted, we’ll ask you to prepare a short presentation ahead of interview, using data extract we’ll share with you, to highlight key trends and insights.

We operate Balanced Hybrid working at Scottish Water and we encourage people to work half their time in a Scottish Water location.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Please note, Scottish Water takes the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees, colleagues and customers very seriously and as such you may be subject to Drug & Alcohol testing in line with our policy.

Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
