As an Operational Excellence Intern, you’ll be part of our Operational Excellence Center of Excellence (CoE) team and play a meaningful role in documenting, improving, and standardizing the way our operations run.
This is a hands-on internship designed for a student who wants real-world exposure to manufacturing and operational processes, not just observation. You’ll partner closely with team members in both office and plant environments and contribute work that will have lasting impact across the organization.
What You’ll Do
Support a key Operational Excellence project focused on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Assess and document the current SOP landscape across select operational processes.
Update existing SOPs and help develop new ones to improve clarity, consistency, and usability.
Spend time in our Mt. Clemens manufacturing facility to observe processes firsthand, ask questions, and capture accurate details.
Create process documentation that may include written instructions, process maps, visuals, and photos to clearly reflect how work is performed.
Collaborate with operators, engineers, and OpEx team members to ensure SOPs are practical, effective, and aligned with best practices.
Gain exposure to Operational Excellence concepts such as process standardization, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency.
What You’ll Learn
How Operational Excellence principles are applied in a real manufacturing environment.
How to translate complex processes into clear, user-friendly documentation.
How to work cross-functionally between corporate teams and plant operations.
How standardized processes support safety, quality, and efficiency at scale.
What We’re Looking For
Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field.
Strong attention to detail and an interest in how processes work and can be improved.
Comfortable spending time in a manufacturing environment and engaging with frontline teams.
Ability to organize information clearly and communicate effectively in writing.
Curious, proactive, and willing to ask questions to fully understand how work gets done.
