IDEXX

Oncology Product and User Experience Research Intern

Westbrook, ME Part time

At IDEXX, innovation in veterinary diagnostics starts with deep empathy for the people doing the work. For veterinary teams, managing an oncology case requires not just clinical precision but compassion, clarity, and resilience. Our Oncology Diagnostics product team is developing next generation tools that help veterinarians navigate these moments with confidence—and we’re looking for a summer intern who is passionate about understanding and improving the real-world experience of our customers.

As our Oncology Product & User Experience Research Intern, you’ll be embedded in a cross-functional product organization during a critical phase of development. You’ll work closely with Product Management, User Experience, Marketing, and Medical Affairs as we explore how cancer diagnostics fit into day-to-day clinical workflows. This is a hands-on internship where your research will inform design decisions, influence product direction, and directly shape how IDEXX supports veterinary teams around the world.

This internship is ideal for someone who’s excited about the intersection of user research, product strategy, and veterinary healthcare—and wants to see how insights translate into solutions that have a real clinical impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with UX researchers to conduct qualitative studies and workflow observations with veterinary professionals

  • Analyze and synthesize research findings into insights that inform product requirements and design priorities

  • Collaborate with product managers to translate customer insights into actionable recommendations for product design and future development

  • Participate in workshops, journey mapping, and cross-functional ideation sessions

  • Present research findings and recommendations to cross-functional partners and product leadership

Who You Are

  • A rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in UX/Design, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Biology/Life Sciences, Business, Veterinary Technology, or a related field

  • Curious, observant, and energized by understanding how people think, work, and interact with complex systems

  • A clear and thoughtful communicator who can turn raw observations into meaningful narratives

  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced product environment

  • Excited about the intersection of science, healthcare, and human-centered design

  • Able to work on-site at our Westbrook, ME headquarters

Why It Matters

Veterinary oncology is one of the most emotionally charged and clinically challenging areas of veterinary medicine. Every diagnostic decision shapes the path forward for pets, their families, and the teams caring for them. At IDEXX, our products help clinicians make confident decisions during some of the most difficult moments in practice.

By joining our team this summer, you’ll play a meaningful role in shaping the tools that support those decisions. Your work will contribute to a better, more intuitive experience for veterinary teams—and ultimately help improve the standard of cancer care for pets everywhere.
