Where You Will Work:
6CC is a 40 bed oncology unit that has 20 beds dedicated to our Leukemia service and 20 beds dedicated to our HOA service. HOA is an oncology service that provides symptom management for a wide variety of cancer patients. They focus on treating the side effects of cancer treatment ie: nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, pain management, fevers/infections, failure to thrive, etc. We provide compassionate and supportive care to our patients and their families.
We’re Looking For:
Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of applicable state.
Required: BSN and three years' experience in Oncology
Preferred applicant will hold an oncology specific national certification (i.e., OCN). Will be required within 1 year of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
What you'll do:
1. Teaches and demonstrates proficiency in patient physical assessment skills, patient care and nursing skills (i.e. mobility, respiratory care, nutrition, pain management, oral care, preventing infection, lift equipment).
2. Reinforces policies and procedures, protocols and guidelines with nursing staff.
3. Coordinates nursing centered rounds and bedside reporting in conjunction with the Nurse Manager/Case Manager with an ability to phase in multidisciplinary rounds.
4. Provides population specific unit educational programs in collaboration with preceptors and staff development instructors in informal, on-site settings.
5. Ensures the quality of professional services by demonstrating and maintaining competency through updating knowledge and skills and continuing professional growth.
6. Communicates in an effective, positive, and professional manner role modeling behaviors associated with Caring Science.
7. Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility including assisting in teaching interpretation of and developing strategies to address nurse sensitive indicators and performance improvement.
8. Supports provision of age/developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
