PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POSITION IS FOR A CANDIDATE EXPERIENCED IN CANCER REGISTRY - CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS AN ACTIVE ONCOLOGY DATA SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION.

Position Purpose

The Oncology Data Specialist completes case finding, abstracting and follow-up activities necessary to maintain an approved Teaching Hospital Cancer Program as required by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

As an Oncology Data Specialist you will:

  • Assist with statistical analysis of data and responding to data requests.
  • Analyze and abstract pertinent information from the medical record (i.e.: pathology reports, diagnostic radiology reports and other pertinent information relating to the diagnosis of cancer), into a computerized cancer registry software system.
  • Obtain follow-up and other pertinent information for each abstract by contacting other hospital registries, radiation oncology centers and medical oncologists offices
  • Provide Registry support for Holy Cross Hospital cancer conferences as well as cancer committees.
  • Assist with other functions relating to Cancer Program Management and preparation for the American College of Surgeons Accreditation process

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Certified Oncology Data Specialist certification.
  • Associate’s degree preferred, with completed college level courses in medical terminology and anatomy/physiology. If no Associate’s degree, an additional 2 years of cancer registry experience can be used in lieu of the degree.
  • 1-3 years of cancer registry experience required

Pay Range: $27.75-38.84. Pay is based on experience, skills and education.  Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates.  The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
