O&M / Process Engineer (Water Treatment)

To support the O&M Interface function and Project Leadership in the technical review, operational readiness, and coordination of works within a live Water Treatment Plant environment. The role is focused on ensuring that activities are fully aligned with operational requirements, treatment process integrity, and safe working practices inside a functioning plant.

The role, based at the Coppermills WTW (London E17), requires an engineer capable of rapidly understanding the treatment process, navigating the plant independently, and contributing effectively to design reviews, technical assessments, and operational integration activities.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Process & Technical Understanding

  • Develop a solid understanding of the treatment process and plant layout.

  • Review P&IDs, GA drawings and 3D models and correlate them with site conditions.

Design & Documentation Review

  • Review contractor and designer documentation (drawings, TQs, RFIs, method statements).

  • Identify gaps between design intent and operational requirements.

  • Propose practical improvements aligned with operability, maintainability and safety.

O&M Interface & Project Support

  • Attend coordination meetings with designers, contractors and client stakeholders.

  • Represent operational considerations during design development and early works planning.

  • Support constructability reviews, outage planning and operational risk assessments.

  • Provide technical input to project leadership on operational impacts.

  • Support contractor inductions and accompany technical site visits within the live plant environment.

Early Works & Surveys

  • Support review of early works activities (trial holes, utility investigations, temporary works).

  • Review survey outputs and assess operational implications within a live site.

Required Skills and Competencies

Required Experience

Minimum:

  • 3+ years’ experience in water or wastewater treatment (design, construction or operations support).

  • Experience reviewing technical drawings and documentation.

Preferred:

  • 5+ years’ experience in water treatment.

  • Experience within a live operational treatment plant environment.

  • Experience in design coordination or interface roles.

  • Familiarity with UK water industry standards.

Technical & Behavioural Competencies:

  • Good understanding of hydraulic and process systems.

  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and plant documentation.

  • Practical, solution-oriented mindset.

  • Able to operate with a degree of autonomy in a complex project environment.

  • Strong communication skills.
