Pay Range: $22.58 - $28.63 (AFSCME-87 Pay Plan, B22 Step 1-13)This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing of this position. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections)
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Creates legal documents as needed by attorneys for court. Creates, summarizes, edits and/or distributes a variety of documents such as summons, information, judgments and sentences, court ordered sentence modifications; filing. Updates forms as needed
Performs research in specialized computer systems and prepares related legal documents and reports.
Creates and maintains complex files and databases such as official records or legal case files. Maintains filing systems in accordance with established procedures.
Provides assistance to the general public and other law and justice agencies. Provides assistance and responds to other support staff regarding procedures and policies to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, regulations and standards.
May witness, prepare and certify chain of custody for genetic draws for paternity establishment.
Other duties required.
Education & Experience:
High School or (G.E.D.) AND four(4) years of general office or specialty experience; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
Required:
successful completion of a criminal background investigation, fingerprinting, and general employment verification.
Preferred:
legal or Court experience; and,
Bilingual English/Spanish.
Equipment Used: computer, telephone, typewriter, printers, copy machine, E-Mail, fax, calculator, transcriber, voice mail and other general office equipment.
Working Conditions: This position is rated as Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Environment: work in locked down facility(s), although the Prosecutor’s Juvenile division office is in a secured, locked down detention facility, the office is separated and insulated from the detention center with a separate outside entrance.
Physical Demands: bending, carrying, handling, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, fingering, crouching, kneeling, hearing, talking, visual acuity, stooping, grasping, feeling, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Intellectual Demands: ability to multitask, confidentiality, ability to work under pressure, ability to articulate and communicate information in conversations, ability to follow written instruction, and ability to follow verbal instruction.
Knowledge:
legal process and pleadings; Legal terminology; Office practices and procedures;
file maintenance techniques; and,
customer service techniques.
Skills (and abilities):
performing tasks under deadline pressures;
organizing and maintaining case file data and paying attention to detail and accuracy;
using office equipment, computers, digital imaging equipment and related software applications; Analyzing reports in order to index properly;
applying customer service techniques; and,
establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels with many different law & justice agencies and communication, both oral and written, sufficient to exchange or convey information.
